Sprint distance
The Sprint format have individual start times according to a start list. The athlete with the best time wins. A sprint race is performed with a map with the Sprint Map Specification. Races are fast an normally in urban terrain and route choices are decisive.

Terrain: Sestri Ponente is a varied urban terrain extending from flat coastal areas to steeper hillside sections, combining pedestrian shopping streets, narrow alleys and open squares, complemented by urban parks, green areas and residential zones; the area features a complex street network with generally high runnability and reduced visibility in narrower sections, and includes hazards such as pedestrians, street furniture, limited-visibility corners, possible traffic, paved surfaces that may be slippery when wet, and uncrossable urban features that must be strictly respected.
Qualification
Each federation can enter 3 athletes + ev. previous champions with allocated named spots. The Sprint distance competition starts with a Qualification race with three parallell heats. The best 15 in each heat qualifies for the Final.
Women: 13 minutes runtime; preliminary length on shortest possible route: 3,0 km
Men: 13 minutes runtime; preliminary length on shortest possible route: 3,5 km
